The Baltimore Orioles are no longer the worst team in the American League and that is amazing. The Orioles now stand at 57-88, while the Mariners are 55-90. It's possible that before the season is over, they will have passed Kansas City, Cleveland, Arizona, and Washington. It's also possible that they will not lose 100 games, which seemed impossible back even at the end of July.
Apparently, when the Buck stopped in Baltimore, so did the losing. Since Buck Showalter has become manager, the Orioles are 25-15, a .625 winning percentage that, projected over 162 games equals 101 wins. In their last three series, the Birds have taken two out of three from Tampa Bay, the Yankees (in New York), and Detroit. As of last night, they have won two games against Toronto--their first two victories versus the Blue Jays all season--with a chance to sweep tonight.
What is truly amazing to Oriole fans is that this winning is occurring at the end of the season. The Birds have suffered through some horrific Augusts and Septembers over the last 13 seasons including 2002 when, after reaching .500 on August 23rd, they promptly went 4-32 the rest of the season.
Out of the parched wilderness that has been this summer, my faith in the Orioles has been watered, and is starting to renew itself. Bring on Opening Day, 2011!
I LOVE IT!! Hope never leaves in baseball.
