Just taking the opportunity to update a couple of recent entries and a couple of other matters:
The alarm on my watch went off at 5:40 a.m. Thursday morning, because it was inadvertently set when I advanced the actual time by 3 minutes. I turned the alarm off, or so I though--it went off again this morning. Forget Christine, Steven King should write about my haunted watch.
Regarding last Wednesday's "Happy Trails" entry , I recently saw an episode of The Lone Ranger in which he and Tonto are talking to an Army Colonel about going after a bad guy and his gang. The Colonel says to the Ranger and his faithful Indian companion, "Ranger, you won't have a chance," to which the Lone Ranger replies, "Colonel, we don't have a choice." Honest to goodness, I get goose bumps when I hear dialogue such as that.
On a more mundane, but no less interesting note, I saw a 1962 Los Angeles Angels bobble head in an antique mall for $185.00. Compare that to the original prices that I noted in my October 16th entry. Charlie Dodge, you better hold on to that old Senators' bobble head!
Sharp-eyed readers will notice a "Favorite" button now appears at the bottom of all blog entries. Clicking on that will take you to a TypePad sign in. You do not need a TypePad account as there is a drop down window that will allow you to sign in through Facebook, Yahoo, and many other net sites. You sign in and it will mark that you have "favorited" the entry; a quick way to say you liked it. You'll just have to live with the word favorited, which makes me cringe. Martha signed in to "As I Looked Into My Angel's Eyes" through Facebook and her profile picture appeared. I signed in through Yahoo and a blue swirly design appeared. Don't ask me; I just write this stuff.
As for Safe at Home: A Season in the Valley, I mailed the galley proofs back to the publisher yesterday! That keeps us (so far) on our deadline to be out before Christmas. I will keep you posted!
Charlie is now wrapping said bobble head in bubble (or is that bobble?) wrap as we speak. He keeps mumbling something about Frank Howard, rookie card, and bike spokes... it may be time to tuck him in for the night.
