Tomorrow marks the 76th anniversary of the release of one of the funniest movies ever made, the Marx Brothers' Duck Soup. This hilarious send-up of heads-of-state is perhaps most famous for the mirror scene in which Harpo pretends to be Groucho's reflection as the latter stands in front of a space once occupied by a floor length mirror. This scene was repeated by Harpo and Lucille Ball on television's I Love Lucy a generation later.
Now considered the Marx Brothers greatest film, it is indeed filled with a number of hilarious jokes and pointed bits of satire. Though made in 1933, the skewering of pompous political leaders is definitely relevant today. Film buffs may be interested in the fact that this was the last Marx Brothers movie that included 4th brother Zeppo, who was incidentally, reputed to have been the funniest of the brothers in real life.
