I stay away from politics in this blog, but today is something of an exception. Actually, today's entry is really more the philosophy of politics than politics itself, because we (as in "we the people") better start focusing on what we have in common instead of reverting to our tribal instincts and concerning ourselves with "us" and "them." The future of America isn't some football game where we all don Republican and Democrat jerseys and root for our team to win. It's time to wear our American jerseys.
In any case, the Augusta Free Press recently reprinted an essay that I wrote last summer for The Sun (Baltimore) on this very topic. I hope that you all get something out of it.
Very well said. Why is it always "them" vs. "us" any more. A little more civility on both sides would go a long way to help "we the people" resolve the problems in our country today. Our leaders have forgotten they are there to represent us. It seems to only be about power and how to keep it. Thanks Austin. Great article
