I am so pleased that many of you have a keen interest in Safe at Home: A Season in the Valley (still the title!) and I thought that you might enjoy some facts and figures on the project so far:
73,000 Words that the manuscript contains. (The original proposal suggested 25,000-35,000 words!)
5,074 Miles traveled this summer tracking the Rebels.
292 Manuscript pages.
34 Games attended including all 5 playoff games.
22 Chapters, not counting the foreword, the prologue,and the epilogue.
18 E-mails sent to people checking on facts.
4 Weird events for which I was present including the hailstorm, the blackout, the fog-out, and the storm that took the roof off the Shenandoah County Flea Market.
3 Games rained out that I "attended."
2 Times that I have re-read the manuscript.
Right now the manuscript is being copy-edited and fact checked. We are still on schedule for a December 1st release and believe me, I will keep everyone posted about the book's progress and availability!
Tools of a Rebel writer . . . that's as opposed to a rabble rouser.
Can I even say how excited I am about this?? Oh, by the way-- you forgot an important stat: 1 Phenomenal Summer!
Can't wait!!!! Hopefully the companion piece "All the Stuff That Got Left Out" will be ready for private publication next spring! ;o}
