Last Friday, July 17th, marked a WWII anniversary of a different kind. By noon on June 6, 1944, the citizens of Bedford, Virginia knew that the invasion of Normandy had begun. They had to wait almost 6 agonizing weeks, however, before specific news of their sons and husbands arrived in Southwest Virginia. It was on July 17th that the terrible telegrams began to arrive.
